Exercise “Changing submodalities”

Changing submodalities is when we change the small details of our thoughts, images, or memories (also called “submodalities”) to change how we feel about them.
Submodalities are small characteristics of how we imagine something:
– Bright or dim image
– Large or small
– Close or far away
– Is there sound, and if so, what kind? Loud or soft?
Is there movement, smell, temperature, sensation, etc.?

Example: Imagine a scary memory. If you make it black and white, small, and push it far away, it will become less scary. Or you can make a pleasant memory brighter and closer, and then it will be more pleasant.
